The Alabaster Tray

Alabaster is a stone reserved for holding what is treasured. One of the most moving examples comes from scripture, where Mary of Bethany poured out an alabaster jar of perfume worth a year of wages over the feet of Jesus. She emptied all of it, an act so extravagant that the disciple Judas called it a waste. But it was never waste. It was love, poured out completely, on the One she loved.
