The Ash Vase

The surface of this vase is like cooled lava, the rough dark crust left behind when something molten and full of upheaval finally goes quiet and still. It is the color of the aftermath, of ground that has been through the worst of it, and it is also, strangely, the most fertile ground there is, the place where things grow back richest.
