The Gingko Dish

The ginkgo is such a survivor, a species of tree that outlasted the dinosaurs and every relative it ever had. In autumn it does something almost no other tree will do. It holds its gold leaves through the first frosts, then drops every one of them in a single day, all at once, and stands bare, certain of its next beginning in the spring.
